This paper establishes a methodology to determine the hydric contamination of inner wetlands, using Landsat satellite remote sensing images. The information gathered and joined from field prospection and visual and digital imagery analysis, allows to detect the aquatic surfaces with higher contamination. The use of Normalised Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), commonly used in natural vegetation and crops studies, results highly useful for mapping the areas with the highest contamination levels. Finally, the availability of multitemporal TM and ETM imagery series allows recent and evolutive studies on algae pollution.
