The heritage making process is one of the major elements of territorial mediation between politicians and citizens, equally as between the territory and the outside. It carries pictures that have to lean on the identity of the territory. This identity often requires a return to the past or an attention on peculiar elements. The study of landscape images on the Country of Albret (lithographs, postcards, photographs …) allows to analyse, over a long period (XIX-XXIth centuries), the construction of meaning that a society gives to its territory. Pictures show identity, personality, values and ambience related to patrimonial places and territory. Techniques, landscapes highlighted and the manner of showing them change over time.
