Abstract

Among the activities which characterize an active education, school trips are the ones which have undoubtly reached a greater diffusion and practice among the teachers who are int.erested in pedagogical renovation. School trips were one of the most characteristic elements in the educational system of the Institución Libre de Enseñanza, since they contributed as no other activity did to the «integral education>>. In the works of Pedro de Alcántara García, a pedagogue related to the most important figures in the Institución Libre de Enseñanza, school trips represent the highest point in a series of educational principles like active teaching, intuitive teaching and encyclopedic teaching.
