Abstract

This paper analyzes immigrant entrepreneurship in general, the challenges it faces in different countries, the business climate and closely related factors. By taking into account a large number of important factors including mobility in the labor market, family reunification, residence or anti-discrimination, among others, the aim of the manuscript is to quantify up to what extend a given country may result attractive for foreigners for doing business. The methodology used is based on quantitative and qualitative methods that combine the statistical analysis of data from various official sources such as the World Bank and Transparency International, Migrant Integration Policies (MIPEX), the OECD and the EU. For the first time, an in-depth analysis has been proposed to measure the attractiveness of a country for foreign entrepreneurs through the introduction of the so-called IMIGRENT index. The comparison between the different approaches shows similar results. However, the IMIGRENT index reports some important additional values not taken into consideration in the previous approaches.
