Scale is a core concept in Geography; however it has been undertheorized compared to other foundational concepts. In this paper four conceptions of spatial scale (scale as size, as level, as network and as relation) are analysed and the importance and complexity of multiple combinations of spatial and temporal scales is emphasized.
