La necesidad de una política de ordenamiento del territorio aparece hoy en caso chileno, como una de esos temas emergentes que generan creciente consenso entre distintos actores, sin embargo, a la hora del análisis detallado del tema o de la formulación de propuestas concretas, surgen variadas discrepancias. Aparentemente, la creación relativamente reciente de los Gobiernos Regionales, ofrece una oportunidad para avanzar en este campo. En este trabajo se presenta una visión sobre el tema, se discuten algunas opciones posibles en la materia y se revisan someramente las posibilidades existentes a partir de los instrumentos actuales.
