Metadata de la información geográfica alfanumérica pública y gratuita en Cataluña

The availability of geographical information of Catalonia in digital format is increasing, particularly data wich contains alphanumeric records. These row data have got items such as postal address or census geography codes so that the records may be georeferenced. Yet, not all the corresponding metadata («information about information») is published, neither it is being updated. The availability of metadata is necessary for the difusión of the geographical information and for the development of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) projects. In this paper there is a proposal of a metadata model of Catalonian digital alphanumeric data. The metadata comes initially from the Catalog of the Catalonian Estatistics, published by the central government bulletin. Some other applications show the power of GIS for cartographicaly represent vast amounts of row data and the ability of GIS in geo-marketing and urban planning.
