The treatment of urban and residential wastewater in an ecosystem as fragil as the one found along the Alicante coastline -a residential and touristic areaand its subsequent reutilization, has three objectives: to maintain and improve the environmental condi tions of the area, to increase the availability of water resources in an area where this resource is scarce, and to produce an increase in both wealth and employment opportunities and the subsequent social and economic benefits that can be denved.
