«La Sierra Norte de Madrid»: An Overview of its Agricultural structures.

Sierra Norte is a zone of great importance within the complex territorial scheme of the Comunidad Autónoma of Madrid (Aut.onomous Community of Madrid). Its traditional agricultural activities have fallen in a deep crisis. On the other hand, it has a high landscape value and valuables natural resources, like water. Due to hese factora it is necessary to accomplish a better regional planning. This paper describes the present agricultural structure of Sierra Norte, as well as its recent evolution. Small size of the average farm, the ageing offarmer and the especialization towards cattle production are the key elements to guide the management of this regían.
