This article anal y ses the contribution of Pedro Chico Rello to the methodology of Geography during a period of the history of Spain in which people's education was considered a valid instrument towards the modemization of society. On account ofits characteristics geowaphy helped greatly to reach this objetive. The teaching of this subject based on an active pedagogy through the topographic method and the image, aimed at the formation of pupils critical and solidaire citizens.
