Abstract

Starting from the deterrnination of the equilibrium line altitude/firn line altitude (ELNFLA) obtained through the use ofmorphological evidences preserved in old glaciated surfaces and the study ofthe spatial-altitudinal distribution ofrock glaciers, we have characterized -by comparison with present- day climatic data -the palaeotemperatures existent in a wide section of the southern Central Pyrenees during two periods, morphodynamically significative, of its late glacial history: the terminal phase of cirque-glaciers, nnd the Lateglncial, both of thern located in the Late Pleistocene and producers of morphologies easily recognizable en vast sectors of this mountainous range (cirque moraines, rock glaciers). The results offer a first general approximation to the thermal paleoconditions developed in the aren, marked by a net fall in mean annual air temperatures on the order of 4'8°/4'9° - 3'5°/3'6° for each of the two mentioned stages.
