In this paper, the historical evolution of mexican minig is analyzed, focusing on its fundamental role as organizer of the territory. In addition, the most important characteristics of conternpornry mining are pointed out, namely its problems, organizative structure, main spaces and the most recent geographical changes, as a result of the internal economic situation and mining insertion in the international market of minerals.
