In order to know the distribution of arid zones in Mexico, five of the most important dryness indices used nowadays were applied: 1) Evaporation, 2) Precipitation/ Evaporation (PIE), 3) Precipitation/temperature (P/1'), 4 Thonthwaite's moisture index, 5) Koppen's climatic system modified by García. The extension of arid zones vary from 46.3% to 77.4%, depending on the dryness index used.
