Reading the dynamics of regional networks of cities in Antioquia through the geographies of conflict: an exploratory proposal (1985-2018)

The relationship between the geographies of the Colombian armed conflict deployed with different intensities, space-time cycles and agents during the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st with the urbanization processes has not been the subject of research and deep debate in the Colombian context. Thus, the objective of the article is to identify what kind of relationships exist between the space-time cycles of the armed conflict between 1985 and 2018 and the processes of demographic change in the regional networks of cities in the department of Antioquia, a very important area of the country. in terms of the structuring of the last cycle of the armed conflict. An exploratory exercise is proposed that combines description, cluster analysis and elaboration of a bivariate synthesis of the relationships between victimization and dynamics of demographic change in regional networks of cities that reveal the existence of three main regional types of articulation. It is concluded that these correspond to different forms of expansion of the frontier of capitalist modernization, creation of centers and peripheries, links between legality and criminal illegality, as well as geopolitical dynamics of valorization and devaluation.
