Representations of the colombian urban landscape in audiovisual fiction on major platforms. An analysis of the cases of Distrito Salvaje and Narcos

Whereas geography has taken graphic and artistic means as tools since its beginnings, its relation with the audiovisual hasn’t been exploited so much. Only since some decades ago the academic interest from geography on films and television started to advance, and one of its more covered strands are the landscape studies, where this article is located. Taking two Colombian series of massive distribution (Distrito Salvaje and Narcos, both from Netflix), an analysis of the urban landscape of the cities there depicted (Bogotá and Medellín) will be made, and following the perspective that understands landscape as text, the distinctive elements exposed in the productions will be identified in order of characterizing the different landscapes in the Colombian cities. The conclusion will provide a comparison between both cases where it’s shown how these series appear regarding the classic narratives of Colombia in an international level and the differences in the role each of them gives to the landscape in its own narrative contexts.
