This paper discusses the process of urban development ofthe most representative space of Seville 92: La Cartuja, site of the World Fair. Starting from the public works which allow the transformation of the terrains in urban land, the initial planning proposals about this space are presented. One decade later, the policy decision oflocating the 1992 World Fair at this space meant a turning point about the role and urban configuration of La Cartuja. I discuss briefly in this paper the ideas, projects, achievements and implications product out ofthis decision, including an evaluation ofthe process ofurban development of this space and its future perspectives.
