The relationship between the river and the city ofSeville has experienced an intensified dynamism as a result of the works carried out in connection with the staging of the 1992 Exposition. This article, highlighting the weight of the fluvial phenomenon in the urban space of Seville, sets forth a wide-ranging assessment of this process as a wholw from different standpoints. It also takes a specific look at the different sectors of intervention: the realignment of the Guadalquivir at La Cartuja, the San Jerónimo menader, Torneo. Chapina-Plaza de Armas and the new bridges, particular attention being paid to the tension which has grown up around the issue of the management ofthe Port.
