Some social facilities produce both benefits linked to its use and rejection or disbenefits to surrounding people or activities. This fact is frequently underestimated in the decision making process. In order to provide a more grounded appraisal of the serious conflicts emerging sometimes, this paper studies, from a descriptive and explanatory basis, the case of externalities associated to a drug adicts treatement centre in Madrid. From a survey conducted among neighbour householders the supposed eflects are measured and evaluated.
