The aim of this work is to analize the factors that have contributed to the deterioration of the landscape in the north west of Argentina, especially the variability of the climate, the geomorpholobrical contrasts and the influence of volcanic parent material on the erosive susceptibility of soils. the deteriorating are discuseed from a geodynamics aspect, particularly the impact produced by deforestation. Finally and with the aim of giving a wider and more realistic view of the evironmental situation in the region, a study of the most representative cases is carried out such as the expansion of the western Chaco bounday, the hydrolobrical desequilibrium of the wet subtropical forest, the desertification of the valleys and the western plains.
