The extensive reforestation with this pine during the period 1940-82 caused a criticism wich makes its use today difficult. Although French Maritime Pine has its genetic center in the lberian Peninsula many authors deny its autochtonous character and thé artificial origin of these forest is generally admited. In
reviewing this criticism, references in favour ofthe historical presence of this species in Spain are provided.
