Abstract

A review of the most important aspects of Geographic Information Systems use is given. The different spatial data models, the relationships between GIS and general database management techniques, as well as several GIS procedures are discussed. The aim is a clear explanation of the concepts treated and a presentation of some elements for a theoretical framework in the field.
